El proyecto del Laboratorio de Oncología Antropológica Molecular y virus oncogénicos (LOAM) se creó en 2021 y se basa en el concepto original de “oncología antropológica molecular” que el equipo conceptualizó y promueve.
Este concepto inició en 2011, y desde entonces, investigadores de diferentes disciplinas pertenecientes al Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplásicas (INEN) del Perú y la UMR 152 PHARMADEV de Toulouse, Francia; realizan en conjunto investigaciones sobre el cáncer y sus determinantes en comunidades amerindias de los Andes.
El LOAM propone una estrategia basada en un triple nexo: Sociedad, Salud y Ambiente Natural, basados en mejorar el conocimiento sobre la relación socio-antropológica, el ecosistema tumoral y el contexto ambiental.
